Your next conversation with a website could look surprisingly like a video call.

Google announced Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar on 24 September 2026: conversational AI with an animated face, synchronised speech and expressions. This launch is for enterprise customers.

A face that talks back

The avatar responds during a live conversation. Google says it can keep talking while connected tools work in the background, and switch between 97 languages.

Show the problem instead of describing it

Gemini Live can process camera feeds and screen sharing alongside speech. This image shows the wider visual-support capability; the person pictured is a user, not an AI avatar.

Imagine showing a confusing control panel instead of typing its model number and explaining every button.

Shopping becomes a conversation

Google highlights Cox Automotive’s Autotrader assistant, which connects conversation with vehicle search, comparisons and financing.

The interesting possibility: customers explain what they need, then explore relevant options with help on screen.

The useful part happens behind the face

In this demonstration, a conversation helps populate claim notes while background agents check policy information.

Our take: an expressive face may attract attention. Accurate information and completed tasks will decide whether customers return.

Can you use Gemini Live Avatars now?

Enterprise access is available. Custom avatars require Google’s allowlisting. The announcement does not establish a rollout to every personal Gemini app account.

Developers can start with the Gemini Live API documentation. Google says generated audio and video carry SynthID watermarks.

What this means for your business

Before choosing an avatar, choose one customer task worth improving: finding a product, checking an order or explaining a process. Then connect it to dependable business data.
